Oracle Corp. (ORCL) dominated tech news today by announcing it’s cloud computing platform. A press release on June 6, 2012 quotes:
“Almost seven years of relentless engineering and innovation plus key strategic acquisitions. An investment of billions. We are now announcing the most comprehensive Cloud on the planet Earth,” said Oracle CEO, Larry Ellison. “Most cloud vendors only have niche assets. They don’t have platforms to extend. Oracle is the only vendor that offers a complete suite of modern, socially-enabled applications, all based on a standards-based platform.”
Oracle is offers an incredible number of software assets to the marketplace. And amidst all the acquisitions they have quietly been working behind the scenes to design, develop, and deliver a world class cloud offering that should have the likes of Amazon, Microsoft, and Salesforce just a little bit concerned. Competitors like SAP scoffed when Oracle started snapping up companies like PeopleSoft, BEA, Taleo, Hyperian, Siebel, and many others. Years later, Oracle dominates. SAP struggles. Oracle is offering both platform and application services.
Oracle Cloud Platform Servcies

Oracle Cloud Application Services
Oracle Cloud Application Services provides customers access to the industry’s broadest range of enterprise applications available in the cloud today, with built-in business intelligence, social and mobile capabilities.
Cloud CRM from Oracle
Oracle already has Oracle CRM On Demand. Customers can get started quickly with Sales, Marketing, Service, Call Center, Analytics, Mobile, PRM, and of course an excellent integration platform. It will be interesting to see how they continue to roll-in application functionality and ultimately customers from acquisitions of Siebel and RightNow.
